Vincent Grassia, Jr.
Associate vice president for finance and operations
Vincent Grassia, Jr. joins Virginia Commonwealth University as Associate Vice President for Finance and Operations in the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation. He brings more than 30 years of leadership experience in research administration, finance, and operations across higher education, academic medical centers, and research-intensive organizations.
Throughout his career, Vincent has led complex research enterprises through strategic planning, financial stewardship, organizational transformation and operational excellence. He brings over 30 years of expertise encompassing sponsored research, clinical operations, regulatory compliance, facilities and enterprise management. Most recently, Vincent served as a senior consultant with Attain Partners, advising institutions nationwide. Previously, he served as Director for Grants and Contract Services for the New Jersey Institute of Technology, Vice President for Research Administration at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, a role he held for 22 years; and led finance and operations for Seattle Children's Therapeutics, a non-profit with faculty affiliations to the University of Washington’s School of Medicine, where he collaborated with executive leadership to elevate performance and advance groundbreaking pediatric research programs.
At VCU, Vincent will serve as a strategic partner to the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation, helping advance the university's research mission through sound financial stewardship, operational excellence, and collaborative leadership. He looks forward to working with faculty, staff, and institutional leaders to strengthen the infrastructure that enables discovery and supports VCU's continued growth as a leading public research university.
Vincent holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Public Administration from Seton Hall University.
Outside of work, as a Williamsburg resident, Vincent enjoys exploring American history, visiting historic sites, and experiencing all that Virginia has to offer.
