Lisa Ballance biography

Lisa Richman Ballance, associate vice president for strategy and regulatory affairs, has over 25 years of experience in university research strategy management and regulatory compliance program oversight. She advises the Vice President for Research and Innovation regarding critical aspects of the VCU research enterprise, including the One VCU Research Strategic Priorities Plan, internal funding, the development of a culture of collaboration, and the ongoing prioritization of investments driving quality and supporting public trust in VCU research. Research ethics and responsible conduct include maintaining the institution’s assurance of ethical and responsible conduct of all human, animal, and sponsor-investigator research. implements Quest 2028: One VCU Together We Transform, the University and Health System strategic plan. As an advisor to the Vice President for Research and Innovation, Ballance works in collaboration with the co-chairs of the Advisory Council for the One VCU Research Strategic Priorities Plan toward implementation and evaluation of progress as well as with OVPRI subject matter expert to ensure institutional compliance. She earned a master’s degree in rhetoric and ethics and has a background in professional writing and biological science and is a Certified Compliance Professional (Health Ethics Trust).
